Penang in the 60s

a vegetable seller in Penang in the 60s
and of course who could forget the 'roti' man who came every day without fail on his trusty bicycle to sell his bread...
Pictures like these give me a feeling of nostalgia about the good ole days when life was much simpler, slower and more peaceful...

This is really nostalgic! I used to live in Penang; Beach Street (the police barrack), Batu Uban (fishermen village)and Patani Road.
I love "Benggali's Roti" in those days where I had to dip it in a warmed fish curry over breaksfast every day. Where were in those days? I do not have the memories of the 60's but in the 70's. By the way, where did you get the pics of Penang Road on those days? I got some of the famous Padang Kota @ Fort Cornwallis in the 70's with me....posed cheekily in front of the Big Clock in the middle of the roundabout of Beach Street! Good piece of writing!May be I should talk of something in the past too.

Ya i remember you telling me abt your stay at the police barrack in Beach Street...that area is so rich in history...the heritage buildings...just look at the stanchart bank...it's so majestic...used to take a stroll around that area during sch holidays just to admire the builidings...remember barkath store, sumi's coffee house, usis library...so full of nostalgia.
Oh yeah...if you take bread with curry it has to be with Benggali roti...still is today for me tho it's a bit difficult to get Benggali roti nowadays. Other types of roti just doesn't taste as good with curry.
Oh i got the pics from someone thru email...will forward them to you.
Ya do blog your past esp the pleasant memories. It's nice to walk down memory lane every now and then :)
